Chat Proactive Messages
Proactive messages let the messenger start the conversation on pages you choose. For example, visitors to your pricing page could see "Questions about pricing? I can help you pick the right plan." after a few seconds. Set them up under Inbox, then Messenger settings, then Proactive messages.
Creating a proactive message
Click Add a message and fill in:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| On pages matching | A page path without the domain. /pricing/ matches that page, with or without the trailing slash. /blog/* matches everything under /blog/. |
| After (seconds) | How long the visitor is on the page before the message appears (0β120) |
| Then | Open the messenger with your message, or Show a bubble above the chat button that opens the chat when clicked |
| How often | Once per visit, once per visitor ever, or every time |
| Alerts go to | The team that gets alerts for chats started from this message, or Decide automatically |
| Message | What the AI agent says |
Page matching ignores capitalization and query strings. If several messages match a page, the first one in the list is used.
Visitors are never interrupted
- If a visitor already has the messenger open, or is mid-conversation, no proactive message appears.
- On phones, the message always appears as a bubble. It never takes over the screen uninvited.
- On single-page apps, messages are checked each time the page changes.
When a visitor replies
Your message becomes the first line of the conversation, so the AI and your team see what the visitor was responding to. The new-chat alert notes that it came from a proactive message.
Ideas
/pricing/: "Questions about pricing? I can help you pick the right plan." Alerts go to Sales./request-a-demo/: "Want a quick answer before you book a demo? Ask me anything." As a bubble./docs/getting-started*: "New here? Ask me anything about getting set up."
